I have an Artcise AS80C tripod, which I really like with one exception. Without the center column, it is hard to get a precise hight. The extension option it too tall as I only need at most 3" - 4" and this fits the bill. I would give this 5 starts but I found with the 1/4" to 3/8" conversions screws, I could not get a tight fit with their ball head. I was in a time crunch, so will try again later. Well constructed and the right idea.
